MAJOR FIELD OF RESEARCH: INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT
I am currently working with the Corporación Colombiana de Investigación Agropecuaria (Corpoica) where I have been assigned to work in the area of IPM. One of my jobs this year will include a study on Dasiops inedulis Steyskal (Diptera: Lonchaeidae), a pest of passionfruit in Colombia. Nevertheless, I have a special interest in scale insects of economic importance. I did my Master's research on a worldwide study of the scale insects of Mango. As for my doctoral thesis I did a taxonomic review of the soft scale subfamily Myzolecaniinae (Coccidae). I have also worked on the systematics of several scale insect groups, including the lac insects (Kerriidae), mealybugs (Pseudococcidae), the felt scales (Eriococcidae), and the soft scale insects (Coccidae), especially those species associated with ants and stingless bees. Currently, I am working together with Dr. Lyn Cook on a study of a molecular level phylogeny of the family Coccidae.
